I think a Montrose needs the jabot and cuffs. You could probably get away without them when wearing a Kenmore doublet.

On " Monarch of the Glen" one of the regulars often wore the Montrose without the Jabot & Cuffs in the later seasons, it always looked a little off to me.

I wear a motrose w/o the jabot for the Fire Dept. honor guard.
I wear a tux shirt w/o the bowtie. the reason being is the honor guard uniform has the same collar as the motrose and it looks a little more uniform with them.
one of these days I'll post a pic

I'm intrigued; I'm familiar with the Montrose, Sherrifmuir & regulation styles, but not the Kenmore - could someone run a pic of it?

I believe that it's similar to the Montrose, but single-breasted. See
Kinloch Anderson's Web site for some nice examples.

If you see a Montrose for example without the jabot there is a dart sewn in the middle, hidden when wearing the jabot. I'll post a few pics to show what I mean.

    A close up

This is what it should look like, with the jabot and cuffs.
    McMurdo,

What do you wear under your Montrose for a shirt?

I just wear an undershirt, as what I have is a jabot and cuff set, I must say it is warm enough regardless.
