it takes me anywhere between 8 - 16 hours depending on how patient or impatient I am at the moment.

I can only give an estimate of 'several days' as I sew in my spare time, and it is difficult to add up all the oddments of time taken.
Plus it is spread out by the necessity to wash the fabric, and sometimes to reshape it to be right if it has been skewed during the making or storage of it.
I usually sew everything by hand unless I am in a hurry, even then, if I sew something on the machine I normally at some time redo it by hand. From time to time I need to make my kilts smaller as I lose weight, and it is usually during a remake that I will remove the machine stitches.
I found it fairly easy to make a kilt, but I have been sewing for 50 years and have no fear of mathematical problems, plus I own a micrometer, with which I measure the various parts of the kilts and sigh at my lack of accuracy.
I do know that I would not be able to make kilts for other people, as they would cost far too much if I charged for my time.
