The strange figure bounded across the room to Jamie. It was a tall, thin man with a mane of hair like an unkept sheepdog. This wasn't as shocking as his outfit - a bright floral print dress and matching red lipstick.

I threw my arms around my poor, poor Jamie, sobbing.
"Oh Jamie! I came as quickly as I could! Your poor thing, are you feeling okay? Oh dear - your nose is warm and dry - it's worse than I thought. Do you need anything? Let me fetch your slippers. I'll fetch your slippers, but not your pipe - no-no, mustn't be smoking in your condition. Don't worry, I'm here to take care of you. We never need be apart again."

*** Casting change *** Unfortunately, Mr. Splash has been unable to continue in the production and his part has been rewritten for Mr. Dove.

I saw that Jaime appeared very uncomfortable with the man's attentions. I quickly stepped over and forcefully removed him.

"Get away from him! You know that Mr. Panache can't get excited right now!"

How dare he put his hands on me in such a manner!
"Dove, don't you dare larrruuffff!! Rrruffff! Rrrufff! Aarrrrrr-rrufff!"

Dove stood there, obviously stunned by the eloquence of my statements.
But he didn't move - he blocked the way to my Panache.
I turned to face the other guests.
“Do you see that? All I want to do is take care of the man I love and he gets between us. He’s jealous - jealous I tell you!”

With that, Mr. Wompet stalked away from Mr. Panache and Mr. Dove, growling and snapping at the people he passed.

As usual, interacting with the…eccentric Mr. Wompet left me at a loss for words.

As he retreated emitting woofs and growls at the rest of the assemble guests I couldn’t help but think that being under observation at the hospital did have its advantages.

I considered the nice firm beds, peace and quiet, everything being clean and white, nurses that seemed to have your well being at stake, the reassuring soft beeping of various machines letting you know that everything was working , the food…

    I grimaced at the thought

…well the opportunity to lose a little extra weight was always a good thing.

Overall the experience would have certainly been less disappointing than this party and encounters with my former business partners.

    sigh

I picked up my glass with the small consolation that good people at the Tanqueray and Martini and Rossi never disappointed .

I sipped it and found the Gibson to have an odd bitter taste.

    sigh

    Bitter?

There was a sudden odd constriction within my throat and I began to choke.

The cocktail glass fell to the marble floor where it shattered as my hands clawed at my throat.

I couldn’t seem to get any air!

My vision began to narrow and a darken and I saw everything through a red mist.

My body began to tremble and thrash about as I struggled to speak.

As if from very far away I heard myself cry:

“The drink…poisoned… someone here... wants me... dead…”

Then darkness enveloped me and the rest was silence

Hearing the commotion, I turned back. My dear Panache was playing dead in order to cheer me up. Wait, he never twitches like that - too undignified for Jamie, even in play ...
"Jamie!" I howled, realization coming over me.

Mr. Wompet rushed through the crowd, bowling people out of the way. He threw himself on top of Panache, whimpering and snuffling.

"I can barely feel his pulse!" I howled.
I had to think fast - Panache's life depended on it. Fortunately, I remembered my first aid training. I flipped Panache onto his back and bent over him.
"Everyone stay back!" I barked. "I've got to perform VCR!"
I looked over at Spasm, good old faithful Spasm of the walkies and tasty biscuits. "Spasm, quickly - fetch me a package of chiclets, a box of rubber bands, and a miniature donkey named Reba! Quickly man, quickly! I'm not a miracle worker!"

I quickly pulled Mr. Wompet away from Jamie before any damage could be done.

"Everyone keep back and give me some room!" I ordered and then bent over Mr. Panache to examine him.

I summoned one of the guests. "You, help me get him to another room!"

The two of us gently picked up the fallen Mr. Panache and carried him from the room.

    HUMPHFFFH

Some people will do anything to get out of paying their dues.

Take no notice, he probably just got a cocktail onion stuck up his nose.

    What a fuss.

I expect he'll get a slap on the back and be back in a minute wanting another drink and laughing at everyone - particularly that silly Wompet.

Speaking of drinks - I need another.

    Poison? Hah haah haaah!!

    Looking over with raised eyebrow.

Yeah, right. He'd better not be poisoned. We still need to get our money out of him. But, then again, that would leave room for me as a moderator. hmmmmmm

I know this is an uncomfortable time, with poor Jamie lying on the floor and all, but you really must see the Moebuis Scarf I'm working on.
