I see that under the Royal Regiment of Scotland it lists sergeants as Senior NCO’s, so I guess that would make a lowly Staff Sergeant like me a Senior NCO in their eyes but not in my fair army.

The British Army ranks roughly equate to US Army ranks thus:

UK ..............................................USA
Pte .............................................Pte
LCpl............Junior NCO...................PFC/Spec
Cpl.............Junior NCO...................Spec/Cpl/Sgt
Sgt............Senior NCO...................SSG
SSgt..........Senior NCO...................SFC
WO2..........Warrant Officer 2...........MSG / 1st Sgt
WO1..........Warrant Officer 1...........Sgt Maj / Comd Sgt Maj etc

Some British officers say that a Sgt is a NCO rather than a SNCO (but they're wrong!). We would treat any 'foreign' Sgt as a SNCO.

p.s. I passed through Kansas City on my way to Fort Leonard Wood in 2007 for a couple of weeks!

It is no longer a rank in the British or Canadian Army, it is now a position. Here is a wikipedia link which seems to be good info[-wise.

As far as I know it has always been an appointment not a rank.
