Thanks Alan, Beloitpiper & Jack Daw.

It was the perfect evening: lots of square dancing - which I love, I'm up to the C1 level (past Basic, Mainstream, Plus, Advance1&2) - very cerebral at this level.

After the dance, I went to a good friend's xmas party, where they'd been waiting to see my kilt all night long. After a few drinks, I was showing them how the kilt was constructed - LOL, in a very dignified way, of course. Guests were coming up to me introducing themselves and getting a chance to inspect the kilt in a more direct way instead of from side glances from afar. LOL.

My first Christmas kilted -- huge difference from last year.

The reminiscing of that evening still makes me smile

No doubt about it, Mein, you are a talented young man - and look very good in this photo.

American square dancing was very popular here in the United Kingdom back around 1950, after our then Princess Elizabeth (now HM The Queen) toured North America and was photographed enjoying a country square dance with Prince Philip. Like many young people at that time, I joined a local dance club but, after a few years, folks lost interest and mostly returned to ballroom dancing causing the square dance clubs to close. Such a shame. Many of the movements, but definitely not the footwork(!) is akin to those in Scottish Country Dancing. I dare say American square dance is still danced here, but it is not popular.

Continue to enjoy you dancing - I wish I could!

    Take care,
    Ham.

    Hello Hamish,

Thanks for your compliments. Can I wish -- that one day you would wear a kilt of mine, and become part of The Kollection?

Yes, square dancing, not unlike the Scottish sword dance can be very aerobic. In addition, you there's a lot of paying attention to the calls and caller; keeps the mind sharp. I'm sad to hear that there's been less and less square dancing in the UK.

    Cheers!
    Mein

Mael, thank you. Yes it was a fun time. Ah the silver thingee is, yes, a silver bow, like one used on a gift box. Our square dance night's holiday theme was Bells & Bows (Belles and Beaus) and people wore, bells, ribbons, bows, etc.

Nice work on the kilt Mein. Could you post a photo of the pleats?
