I wear mine over my... bits and pieces. That way, if a stiff wind blows up, I don't have any problems with my dignity.
And in truth, I don't wear one very often. I have a black leather belt pouch that I wear instead. Sporrans tend to get in the way in my experience.

No Probs, i appreciate that. The sporrans that used to be worn by Junior Ranks were a lot shorter and different pattern although still with the 5 bells.

Sorry for the confusion - didn't mean to disparage anyone's Regiment, especially the RHR, whom I hold in the highest esteem. In fact, I think they're almost as good as soldiers as Seaforth.
But yes, I still think they're wearing their sporrans at the proper height, even if a lot of civvies think it's in vogue to wear them to high to serve their purpose.
Likewise i think this photo is about 50 years old while the uniform may stay the same the way its worn can change!!

Ah, their's my Alzheimer's kicking in again. One wouldn't bear arms with no. 2 uniforms. That's Mess Kit. I meant to say that all ranks wore Horsehair sporrans with no. 1 and no. 3 uniforms.
Ah, well, at least with a memory like this, I can wrap my own Christmas presents and still be surprised.

Okay, so I'm not alone in wearing the sporran "down there". But, what's this about a belt pouch? Does that help preserve dignity? Maybe I'm just picturing it all wrong in my head.

I've seen soldiers move sporrans over to the (usually right) side when they had to get them out of the way. I think that's where snare drummers have them when playing. I think that's also what the guys did who were doing run-ups on the live fire range, before we changed to combats with trousers.

Of course, I've seen plenty of pictures of Highland troops with nary a sporran in sight - they weren't adverse to take it off if it got in the way too!

My appolgies for offending anyone it was not inteded that way! Thank-you for correcting my misunderstanding on that different regiments had different lengths for the length of the sporran. I had look at some different vintage photos and noted the length on those. My recently deceased uncle was a Gordon Highlander in the 60's.Again my appologies for the offence though not intended. I will be more prudent in future.

I definitely agree with those who mentioned that the sporrans look to be in the correct place, as they were intended to offer some protection for the male anatomy.
