Kilt buying binge
Have any of you other lads and lasses noticed that you may go for some time without purchasing a kilt or kilt accesories, and then in a rather short time frame order several items. For instance I went about 8 months without a single purchase. Then, since September I have ordered:
Stillwater Black Watch Wool Heavyweight
Stillwater Ancient MacRae Wool Heavyweight
USAK Isle of Skye semi-traditional in 11 oz PV
Gordan Highlanders 22 oz wool military kilt
16 oz wool casual in Ulster tartan from Burnett's and Struth
16 oz wool casual in in Modern MacNab tartan from Burnett's and Struth
Black, Navy Blue and Oatmeal kilt hose from USAK
Rampant Lion kilt pin from USAK
Then I'll probably go another 6-8 months before I order anything. I wear a kilt as my daily attire, but it was not like I really needed all of this. They just appealed to me at the time, Including the sale that Burnett's and Struth is having on wool casuals. For me, the addiction will go into remission only to return with a vengeance.
I love wearing a kilt.

Ya, it's a bit that way for me to. I haven't bought a kilt in the whole time I've been a member here. I've bought a few sporrans and hose.
I think my binges are more of the DIY type like alterations on my SWK kilts or converting a kilt jacket. Sometimes I make a kilt pin here and there and I'm slowly putting together the materials to make a sgian dubh.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

I've noticed the same thing. I only purchased one kilt ( USAK semi trad) this year plus three pair of hose and a kilt pin. Oh and a t shirt from the Scottish Tartans museum.
This was over a eleven month period. It'll probably be 4 or 5 months before I order anything else.
My all time record is CENSORED kilts in one month.

Aye, I've noticed the same thing, except with me it started kind as a big bang thing. I got a Clarke/Clerical to do a wedding, then I discovered X-marks , and well the rabbit hole got deeper and deeper.
I now own:
five sporrans: a rabbit fur dress, a SWK night Stalker, a basic brown leather sporran, a basic black leather sporran, and a custom leather in a walnut with Celtic knots.
A dress Prince Charlie for my wedding business. A Harris tweed argyle for me.
Two very nice kilt pins, a golden panther and a silver claymore, a cheaper saltier which I probably will only wear for kick around stuff later this summer.
Six pair of kilt hose; Green, Gray, Cabled diamond Gray, Black thigh high woollies, Blue, and the first mandatory cream cable diamond that every one gets.
Four kilts: the above mentioned Cleric, a SWK Gordon, SWK Saffron, and my newest a Royal Stewart PV. I am thinking about a 16 oz Lare in a Lindsay or a Birse (family clans), and possibly later on a X kilt for summer.
Oh, I donned my first kilt in October of this year. What can you do?

Same with me, although I have moved on to the second stage of the binge- purge (well not exactly purge) cycle that follows.
I got in heavy with Argyll and a tweed jacket and waistcoat sets with my first kilt, my family ForresterModern (hence the handle), and all the accoutrements (ghillies, hose, sporran, balmoral, and all the pins/broaches, etc... ) that one needs to start off properly, all in anticipation of my first Scotland trip this past spring. No sooner that package arrived than I ordered two more kilts (tanks in 16 on Black Isle and Ancient MacDonald) and started on my quest to fill in the holes im my sporran, hose, belts and buckels, sgian dhubs, flat caps in tartan, etc... collection. Then a breath while that all worked its way through the shipping and customs system, but immediately after its arrival I went off and ordered another tank in IoS which arrived right before my Scotland trip in late May. Picked up a few trinkets and a lot of nice hose while in the ancient homeland, along with several bottles of cask strength single malt water of life. Before I left I got a custom grey tweek heavyweight Inverness made for me too. Upon return I got the itch again and ordered a tweed jacket and waistcoat in lovat green followed by another tank, this time in Ancient Douglas, which arrived a couple months ago. Since then I have ordered a pair of tan ghillies, 8 mtrs of single width custom woven 13 oz Allen 1996 tartan, a Burnett and Struth casual in weathered Macdonald, a true Braveheart tartan tank in 16oz from bobolishious, 4 double width meters of Forrester Modern Hunting in 13 oz, and finally a 16oz tank in HoE Muted Macdonald of Glencoe (which I hope arrives in time to wear for the anniversary of the massacre). Still got the itch for more but holding off as best I can because I am truly a casual and occasional wearer since my wife doesn't really like me wearing them on "regular" days or ordering a lot more when she thinks I won't be wearing them that much. A few other t-shirts, caps, badges, pins, sporrans and other little things intermixed. Oh and along the way I got my son an infant Macdonald kilt and grey flannel flat cap (he looks so cute in it). I have plans for a couple of our resident experts to turn my fabric purchases into lovely handmade tanks, but need to hold off on that until the xmas bills arrive and are cleared off the books. And this is all in just 12 months time. But I am sure the urge will recur thereafter, just not sure what else there is to look for at this point.
Need to shop-----help me-----need to shop---help me.

It's part of the madnes. Always, there but then it grabs you wildly and you can't relieve it to you satisfy the acute addiction. There is no middle ground.

You're what we call a periodic kilt addict. You can go for months without a purchase then suddenly, with no warning or control, you find yourself on a kilt binge.

I binged for Xmas. Usually its tax refund binging, but the stars aligned this year.
I plan out my purchases. For example, my next kilt should be an ApocoKilt in Multicam, with belt & buckle from USAK around the same time.
