Knife pleats, very deep, pleated to the red stripe. It has only two straps, wider than the modern style, of brown leather. I couldn't be happier. I've got a tweed kilt jacket (from ebay) coming in the mail, and I'm stalking the wild sporran.
The kilt itself is, however, a large warm beast, and I can see the need for a lighter kilt in warmer weather, or for dancing (especially for dancing in warm weather).
I will post pictures when I can.
Cheers.
WELCOME from Kent WA.
SIR, IMHO, your a VERY LUCKY Gentleman. IMHO there is a NO FINER KILT than a MILITARY KILT. I own a "few" Kilts, BUT NONE match up with my MoD Kilt, for the very reasons you mention.
Additionally it is not only a BEAUTIFUL Tartan

BUT the Unit is UNIQUE! as you can see here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atholl_Highlanders) this unit is the ONLY Privite Army in the UK.
Again SIR, I ENVY you. Wear it with PRIDE
