What stand out for me is how far forward the flashes are.

There's been plenty of mockery on the Dos and Don'ts thread and elsewhere of those wearing their flashes this far forward. Wouldn't mention it to these boys, myself.... ; )

I wear my sporran about a handpalm's width under my buckle. They do seem to wear it rather low indeed, however for the tall guy it might be nescessary for it would probably look stupid if he wore it that high as well. The flashes are a wee bit too far forward for my taste but oh well!

Well, again, it's military regulations vs. civilian fashion.

The flashes are right where they're supposed to be by military regulations. The sporrans are right where they're supposed to be by military regulations. In fact, there is nothing incorrect about the way they are dressed... by military regulations.

Those of us who aren't subject to military dress regulations don't have to follow them. Wear the hose flashes around you neck for all I care. But don't make the mistake of thinking that the more-or-less common assumptions civilians make about highland dress have anything to do with military dress regulations.

For example, it is quite common now for men to not button up the bottom button on a suit jacket, and there are many who think that doing so shows a lack of class. However, military dress regulations do not allow the bottom button of a tunic to be left undone. If you're wearing a military uniform, are you doing so improperly if you have the bottom button done up? Of course not! Trying to leave it undone will attract "correction" at an amazing rate of speed.

That's my point - military dress regulations and modern fashion don't always meet. Don't judge military uniforms by the momentary "standards" of current fashion. That's a recipe for failure. Just keep the two separate in your heads - if you're wearing a kilt, you don't have to do it like a soldier does, nor do what is currently in vogue with highland dress have an iota of bearing on military dress regulations.

Just my two bits, again. Sorry for the rant. I'll go back to being quiet now. Sorry.
