Black Stewart pleated to the stripe
I just got my KL Kilts Black Stewart yesterday -- pics to come -- and I've noticed something. I was wondering if anyone else has noticed it.
It's pleated to the stripe, and from the back, it looks like the kilt is almost entirely burgundy or red. You can't really tell there's any significant amount of black until you get all the way around the front.
Is it just the size of the sett on this particular kilt that makes it work out that way, or have other people seen this, too?

Why, a child of five could understand this. Quick -- someone fetch me a child of five!

I have never seen that before. It sounds really interesting. I can't wait for the pics. I'll bet the black "flashing" through while you walk is pretty cool.

I have seen that before. When pleating to the stripe, you have to take note to which stripe you want to pleat your kilt. The look can be totally different depending on the stripe. It will look different, as well, if pleated to a horizontal stripe.

Really? I'm intrigued, I would love to see that to the stripe (I really like stripe pleating).

Really? Hmm, I've been eye'ing the KL as well (debating betwen it and a Stillwater for a first kilt, or just doing my own) and would be curious to see the result.

The pics aren't the greatest, but they show you what I mean.
Here's the front. Nothing unusual here...

But here's the back, pleated to the stripe...

I'm tellin' ya, if I didn't know better, I'd guess the kilt was red or burgundy. My wife did comment, as one poster mentioned above, that when I walk, the swish of the back shows flashes of the black and blue, which she liked.
As for the KL Kilt itself, it's higher quality than I thought for such an inexpensive male unbifurcated garment. The leather straps instead of velcro are nice. I wish the pleats were sewn to the fell rather than just at the waist, but my seamstress sister says she can take care of this easily enough in exchange for lunch with her loving brother.
By way of comparison, it's not quite as nice as a SWK standard but a wee bit nicer than a thrifty. It feels like it'll be a very nice pub night, weekend grocery shopping, knockabout kind of kilt. I may change my opinion once I wear it a little more, but an evening around the house makes me think that this was a good purchase for $45 (which included handling). In case you're interested, search eBay for KL Kilts.

Looks good. I bet when people see you coming and going they will think you've changed kilt.
