Games?
I have never been to the highlandgames. I have been wanting to go for about 10 years or so. I been thinking about them alot this year now that I have semi-retired. All Really would like to know is what are the games and sporting events that are at most of them? And can anyone join in them? Thanks Todd

Wikipedia gives a pretty good overview here, though the scope of any given games will vary depending on location.
Looks like there might be a couple down in your neck of the woods:

More here: http://www.asgf.org/4.html
I know we have competitors in athletics, piping, and dancing on board here at X Marks, and I'm sure they'll be able to provide further insight.

Gotta agree with Tim. That's a very good overview. It's amazing to see these athletes in action. I actually think the Masters division is the most fun to watch. Go when you can!

Hi neighbor. I missed your introduction thread back in August. I was in Florida at that time, so I went back to read it. Did you ever get your kilt?
On to your question...Unfortunately for you there will not be any games or festivals of the celtic variety in middle Tennessee this year. The next closest ones will be in Glasgow Kentucky at the Barren River State Resort Park. These are a wonderful set of games to attend for the first time. My first games to attend were at Grandfather Mtn. in North Carolina. I went there and camped out not knowing a soul. I met some great people there though. The atheletic events at Glasgow are the typical events that you will probably read about in the links provided. They do have an amatuer division that is open. You must participate in all events. If they have a lot of participants in the amatuers, they usually do an elimination after the first couple of events. But I don't think they have ever had so many that they needed to do an elimination. But I wanted to make you aware of that.
I'm not sure where you are located. It sounds like your farm may be in my direction. I am also a member of a Scottish Society based out of Tullahoma. We meet every other month, next one is Jan. 20th. We are also having our Burn's Night on Jan. 31st. So if you are interested in discussing anything, just ask here or in a PM.
