Not sure of the wool weights, but my MacRae Ancient Hunting seems heavier than my solid green Shadow tartan. Different wool too. The Shadow tartan is more "fuzzy." I LOVE them both.

I just got a heavyweight off the closeout page for Scooby. It feels about the same or slightly heavier than the 13oz I've been making for myself. The description said it was the discontinued Merino wool.

Well, I don't know about the current Heavyweights BUT.... mine is much heavier than my 13 oz kilt from another supplier. Of course it is about 4 years old.

Well I am aware that the regular weaves are 11, 13 and 16.
But I found a seller on ebay offering what he lists as 13/14oz wool tartan fabric, so I wanted to make sure that is approximately the weight I already wear in my SWKs.
thanks again

I emailed Jerry the same question about the weights of his wool kilts and was informed that the Shadow kilts are 13oz and the Blackwatch and MacRae are 16oz.

I have a wool Nightstalker. It feels like it's about 13oz. I just ordered a saffron shadow tartan kilt, so when I get it, I'll post about it's weight in comparission.

I just got my saffron. It feels like it's about the same weight as the standards- maybe a little heavier. The pleats are about half as deep as the ones on my wool Nightstalker, and the material is a lot lighter. So I would guess my Nightstalker is a good 13 oz at least, if not a 16. I don't know exactly, because it was sent to me by mistake. I ordered a Nightstalker standard, and was sent the heavy, so it never occured to me to ask. Also, the lining is different. The lining in all my others feels like satin, while the lining in this one feels like horse hair or something a little more coarse and thick. The straps are not as heavy leather on this one as on my Nighstalker. An just as a point of reference, my Nightstalker was ordered almost 2 years ago. So there you have it- the solid color is a lot lighter than the tartan, and the pleats are much more shallow. Overall, as always, a great kilt for the money- no complaints. The shadow tartan effect is very cool. I like it a lot. It will be a much more comfortable summer kilt than my Nightstalker for sure. I'm wearing it tonight in the relative cold (low 20's f) to see how warm it keeps me. I'll post on that tomorrow, as well post pics. I know that if there are no pics, it doesn't exist.

Isn't it interesting that its not specified on the website.
Kind of like sporran vendors hawking their wares and leaving off the dimensions and posting pictures of the sporrans with no background to guage size from.
I always get a red flag when a vendor leaves out basic information about their product(s)...like the widths available for shoes, or fabric content of garments...if vendors are hiding something I don't want to be the one to find out what the secret is AFTER I own it.
Come on vendors, you can be up front with us and still make sales.

Nighthawk, I am very confused now. Did you order a standard (acrylic) saffron or a wool heavyweight saffron?
If those wool shadow tartans are anywhere as light as the standards, then something is very, very, very, very, very wrong here.
I am also confused by your description of the pleats being shallower.
I wanted to stay out of this thread, but it's just not adding up.

I own two SWK standards and two heavyweights. Though lighter than the MacRae (as I mentioned earlier in the thread, and validated by ajrimmer above), my green shadow tartan SWK is a LOT heavier than my SWK standards.
