Is Frugal Corner's "Bright Skye" tartan close?
Has anyone purchased a Frugal Corner "Bright Skye" tartan kilt? I'd love an Isle of Skye, but I'm working on a budget. So, I'm wondering how close it is. There are pictures on their website, but I've grown skeptical of pictures on websites based on the varying quality of pictures and how vastly differently they can appear on different monitors.
Can anyone help me or offer advice?

Can you get a swatch of it?

re
The pictures on his site are really strange, the color is way off from what they really actually look like. I don't know if saturation or brightness is turned way up for those pictures.

Not even close. Do a search of bright skye on this forum. Canadian Casual Kilts carries IoS in PV but his 5 yarders are about $220 CDN ($38US? ) plus a few bob more for the licensing rights. His colours are dead on. PM McHummel.

There is a photo of the tartan in this thread:
http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/b....html?p=509629
Originally the Frugal Corner advertised this tartan as "Isle of Skye". There were many here on XMTS who questioned this because the rights to produce the Isle of Skye tartan are held by an individual and it would seem that the FC had not obtained permission to offer an acrylic kilt in this tartan.
For this reason, and the fact that when the kilts arrived from their manufacturer with different color values than the subtle IoS tartan, The Frugal Corner changed the name on their website to "Bright Skye". I think that this was even suggested by an X Marker.
The polyviscose tartan fabric offered by Marton Mills (used by Rocky, Pete, Steve Ashton, and others) is produced with permission of the copyright holder and she receives a royalty for it.
Do a search through some of the older threads and you can find the whole story.
To me I think it would be better to either save for a real Isle of Skye tartan kilt where you know that the kilt maker did the right thing, or choose another tartan.
Cheers

It's nothing even close to Isle of Skye.
I saw thomsec's polyester-viscose Isle of Skye from USA Kilts this weekend, and it's pretty close. If you were on a limited budget, you might try that.

ANY kiltmaker who gets their PV material from MM will have the same colors as the wool versions of isle of skye. The mill had to have most of the colors specially dyed to make sure the colors were right. Ms. Rosemary Samios (sp?) personally approved of the colors in the PV tartan from MM.
The only 2 mills that have permission to weave the IOS in WOOL are Marton Mills and Lochcarron.

Why go for the mimic when you can get the real thing----16 oz IoS wool tartan 8 yd machine sewn tank (kilt) for around $160 US plus shipping from scottishkilts.net.
http://scottishkilts.net/products/st...ched_kilt.html
Total should come out at less than $200 even after shipping, and you get the real thing. There are several of us who have them. Come on, join the brotherhood.

Marton Mills has 16oz wool Isle of Skye for a $30-$35 a yard. The swatch I received looked fantastic.
