Scotland the Bra... er... Dismal?!?
Apologies if this has been posted already... But a link to a news story about this year's "Carbuncle Awards." I thought it was kinda funny. Makes me wonder what "dismal town" awards would look like in Canada... Or Japan for that matter.

Not sure about Canada or Japan, but here in the States I'd be willing to bet that Worcester Mass, Troy, NY and most of St. Lawrence County, NY would be in the running.
Apologies to any and all that call those areas home and disagree. I've been through Worcester and Troy more times than I care to count and lived in St. Lawrence County for 4.5 years. Dismal and depressed indeed.

Well as far as PA goes I can think of a couple.
Shunk, PA
Centralia, PA (kinda neat to see if your an outsider, but watch your step)
Seward, PA (it seemed to be very overcast and drizzling every time I have ever been there)

I see the thread title, and this item from the Scotweb Kiltstore is what came to mind. ![Shocked](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif)
For dismal, I would have to say Niagara Falls, New York.

Heh, depends on what time of year you look at it. Fairbanks at 40 below (that's the same in Fahrenheit or Centigrade) is as dismal as I care to see. But Barrow, Alaska in the winter doesn't even get a sunrise. I've never been there, but pictures and family giving descriptions are enough. My wife has a former coworker who took a job in Barrow for the pay. His wife stayed in Fairbanks because she used to live in Barrow. He flies home as many weekends as he can manage it, but she won't move there. He won't be there long, I predict. It is that dismal.
