This happened to Mael Coluim and me last night at the Fredericksburg Pub after attending the Burns Night in F'burg. As soon as the pub's manager saw us he came over and told one of the bartenders that our next round of Guiness will on the house.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the primary reason I wear one (or do anything Scottish) - Familial Heritage.

I don't wear a kilt - to be different, controversial, non-conformist [although some of this happens naturally] and I certainly wouldn't wear (dare I say it) a skirt to attract women, but becasue my family comes from Scotland. For me - all other reasons (some of which are great) pale in comparison.

    Oh, another one:

Kilts are perfect wear if you have a rash.

Or a cast on a leg.

And its really fun to confuse the drunks...street drunks get completely befuddled...their mind races but finds nothing to hook up to...they babble and say something stupid and unrelated. Usually a hoot.

Overall, I have to agree with three main points...

    1. COMFORT!

    2. looks better than slacks...

    3. I love to not blend in.

That's honing it to 3 good points.

Yeah, I loved mine for when I had to dig my car out last week or so ago.

I have seen dozens of "Reasons why I wear.." lists. Almost all of them include the "Easy Access" line.

Forgive me for being negative here, but do we really need this? Are we really all just a heartbeat away from trying to be fruitful?
Anyone reading these lists would think that we are all on the level of a rutting moose in spring.
I suggest to you all that this does not serve the kilting community well. Please go and remove this item from all of your lists right now. There are plenty of great reasons to wear a kilt without resorting to such fatuity.

    Cheers,
    Rick
