I am the proud owner of the same buckle and a 'fan' of Laphroaig. Good combo!

Say...I don't mean to hijack my own thread but I drink Laphroig 15 neat. But the literature that comes with the Quarter Cask says that it is bottled at 48%. Does that mean that it will benefit from a few drops of water?

I believe the drops of water are to help release the 'nose' or boquet for you wine drinkers. I don't think the relative alcohol content matters.

By the way, I would still call it neat even with the drops of water as they would really not dilute it to any measurable extent. It would become something other than neat if you added ice, a significant amount of water or some other mixer; not that you would ever do such a horrible thing to a fine whisky like Laphroiag.

Not to me it doesn't. Frankly and ironically I suppose, my experience is that water dilutes the flavors and brings out the scent and taste of alcohol. I pass on such polutants as water.

I'm with you...I don't add water in any form. But I'm not really conversant with the more, shall we say, "exotic" forms of whisky.

For instance, wouldn't you dilute cask strength whisky? I thought I had read that that was a standard practice.

Maybe I'm confusing the "Quarter Cask" name with cask strength.

I have never been informed that one must or should dilute the cask strength with water. I think my previous point holds for this type of whisky, too. It's all about one's perception of taste. My collection of single-malt scotches includes a few cask strength versions, which I drink neat.

Great buckle. You can make one or buy a cheap belt and scavenge one from it or call anyone who makes/sells kilt belts and get one from them.

Nice Buckle. I've always been a fan of Don's work. I have a few of his pieces in fact. He's a really nice guy tae boot. Happy Birthdae tae ye . I hope you enjoyed your day. Good luck with the belt. Ah, Laphroiag, if only it were a wee bit later in the day. Well the evening will be here soon enough .
