Freedom Kilts pocket options include the hidden pocket, as do other kiltmakers (I've got a prototype in the works, hoping to have it done in time for Queen Mary Games in about 10 days). Quick-and-dirty method would be making them right into the hidden pleats, i.e. no extra fabric. More sophisticated method would be adding an actual pocket that hides within the pleat.

I have a PK MarPat with the slash pockets and the under apron pocket. For a casual utility style kilt, I LOVE THEM! They are one of those features that you may not miss if they were never there, but once you have them you will never want to loose them.

I plan to get a Tartan Freedom Kilt with his hidden slash pockets because the options it provides you without compromising the appearance are priceless. If you don't want to wear a sporran for that quick run to the store, no problem.

Bottom line, Freedom kilts can hide these pockets in the pleats so well that you will not know they are there.

cavscout, thanks for your reply. Could post a picture of the pockets from inside of your kilt so that I could see how they are constructed? The picture on the website only shows the outside.
    I appreciate it!

Sidney 7 could you please post pictures and details on your pocketed kilt? Thanks

I found a pretty good front/side picture of a kilt with pockets. It says the pockets are similar to pockets in slacks. So maybe I could just look up patterns for men's dress slacks and convert it to the kilt ? I'm researching that out now.

That's is basically all they are. 2 panels sewn together to make the pocket and then sewn to the slash opening.

They aren't tacked to a pleat. They just hang loose inside the kilt.

    If I may,,,,

An under-apron Pocket is just a rectangle of fabric sewn onto the surface of the Under Apron.

A Side Pockets is, yes, similar to those in slacks.

But that is where any similarity ends.

I spent many hours and killed quite a few brain cells working out how to put my pockets into my Kilts without harming the look, hang, and swish of the Kilt.

A good Pocket in a Kilt is not just stuffing an extra flap of fabric in a pleat. There really is a bit of Engineering and trial & error involved.

How I do it is only one way. I sort of guard my construction method and keep it to myself.

    Don't tease.

WHAT? I just ordered a book. Are you saying I should buy another book just to learn about pockets?
Thanks anyway. I'll figure it out.
