Had a scare at work today!
My manager called me into his office this morning with a copy of the dress code in hand -- not a good sign!
He mentioned that a couple people in our office of 50+ had complained about my kilts (I wear 2 Utilikilts -- no pants for the last 5 months). The complaints were made to my boss' boss.
We have a business casual dress code here at work. Most men wear cargo pants and a polo shirt. I typically wear a shirt and tie with my UKs. My boots are always very clean and polished. I wear nice socks all the way up under my knee. Basically I am dressed much nicer than any other guy in the joint.
My manager has no problems with my kilts, he actually commented on how much he likes them and complimented me on my daily appearance.
Our dress code is not gender specific, and my UKs fall under the "skirts = appropriate" category. Not "appropriate for women", just "appropriate".
My boss wrote a lengthy email to our HR director about the issue and he just got a response. The HR guy is fortunately smart enough to see the problems associated with a gender specific dress code. He basically told me to carry on and that those who are uncomfortable with it will just have to deal with their own issues.
I am very glad to have such a supportive manager!

If only we as a society were willing to allow folks to "deal with their own issues...." and resist the urge to legislate and micromanage.

I initially thought,"Oh, no, another one bites the dust." But your story had a happy ending. It is good to see that you have an understanding mgmt. team.

Excellent, its great that management have better intelligence and understanding than whoever raised the issue with them.

Who in their right mind would register such a complaint? Never mind, I think my question contains the crux of the answer...
