Wow! What a happy ending to a potentially disappointing situation. I'm glad you get to keep your kilts!

You should take your boss out to lunch. Couldn't ask for a better attitude.

That's great to hear. My company (just got laid off a couple days ago, actually) was much the same with their dress code policy, although they are a much larger company. I first started wearing UK's there, and never heard a complaint from anyone, had a good amount of compliments from the ladies, some funny comments from the guys (which I never could figure out if they liked it or were masking their dislike through humor...). Never heard from management if anybody complained, but the dress code was pretty clear that it was non-gender specific. We even had a comment from HR, because us guys were complaining that we couldn't wear shorts in the summer, that the guys could always wear skirts - I think I'm the only one that took them up on the offer by wearing a kilt!

    Just FYI:

The company employs roughly 30,000 people nationwide, about 2,000 here in Salt Lake. When I said "my office" I meant the 50 or so people who share the room with me.

The great HR guy is over the whole region of 2,000+ people.

Sorry I misunderstood. Those numbers sound a lot like where I was employed. Unfortunately, the dress code was the only good thing about the company I was with. Hope you can say different!

Wow! It gives me hope that prejudices are being recognized as just that and not a reason to force one's likes and dislikes on anyone else.

Amen Kiltman - its refreshing to see a company make such a level headed decision.

Like Nulty I thought we were in for another sad ending. Glad to hear that common sense (which isn't so common these days) prevailed. I really like your HR's comment about letting the complainers deal with their own personal problems. If only more people would take that attitude we'd all be much better off.
