A really great kilt day
This morning, we were getting dressed to go out for lunch. My son was almost done getting dressed, and saw the jeans that were laid out for him, and got mad. "I don't like the tight jeans" he yelled. So I look at him, and say "Well, you go through your clothes kinda fast, so its the jeans or your kilt." Mind you, he has never really worn the kilt for more than a little while, and only twice out of the house, once to get a sweater, and a quick trip to pick up his cousin. He choose kilt. My wife says that I was going to wear pants, and I look at her and said "No, they've been falling down on me all week, I ain't puttin them on!"
My son then demanded his Picachu kilt pin, I had removed it to wash his kilt.
Once we get to Bob Evans, I hear (with that magical hearing boost that comes with wearing a kilt) attention build up from two nearby tables. One found it really amusing. I quickly added them to the ignore list, but the other table, two parents and their son, something wasn't quite right there. But I looked up, and they were going through some (what I thought) baseball cards. (They sell a local teams cards here.)
We order our food, and the mom walks up to our table, as they were about to leave, and hand us a DARE card with 4 of our local police officers, who happen to be decked out for the honor band, in FULL KILT KIT. I didn't know we had local Kilted cops, and (I didn't scan the card, my wife has it.) it almost looks like they are in Gordon kilts, like the one I was wearing. (Hard to tell from the pic, but I once bought some swords off of one of the cops!) They didn't have the horsehair sporrans, but nice fur ones none the less. Somehow, seeing my son and I in kilts really made their day.
On to walmart we go...
I had to catch up to my wife, since I was getting my son's car seat out, and the eldest was off and going once his mom had gotten out. As I catch up, I hear some people behind me saying they needed to hurry and get their camera out, and get a pic. Perhaps it was the fast melting snow, but I have a gut feeling I was the sight for the day. Amusing though, they were excited.
In the movie section, we were looking at the blu-ray movies when I hear a mom yelling (rather angrily) at her daughter "It's not a skirt, it;s a KILT. It's traditional dress.." All I could hear as they continued down the electronic section.
It's days like this that encourages my wife to be fine with me (and my son) in our kilts.
(One last irony, after we were all dressed, my wife picked out her shirt. One of her "Twilight" movie shirts, and I laughed. Is it just me, or does that look like a certain lion to anyone else?)

GREAT story, and you've certainly got a little cutie there (and smart, too, preferring the kilt!)!

Love the story. Great pics. Wait til the wee un demands to go to school kilted. I did that to my parents for first grade. My mother's mother thought I should go kilted, as it is her side of the family's tartan that I was wearing. Due to the very early hour to catch the school bus, mother didn't have time to argue. I went to school kilted. Soon a couple of other boys started showing up in tartan for school. The school got used to stubborn Scots.
Be ready.

I only included pics because if I hadn't it wouldn't have happened.
He kept his kilt on until bedtime (sans having to redo it a few times, its a SWK and the velcro let go a few times. He even had me hang it up for him before he went to bed.
