Legends of the Fall kilt scenes

I caught a bit of the middle of the movie "Legends of the
Fall" last night before I fell asleep, and noticed that there are several scenes of the trenches during WWI (The Great War) with kilted and glengarried british troops. The protagonists are not kilted, but they are regimented with at least another group that was kilted. Have to catch the whole movie next time I get a chance.

I've never seen the movie, but I remember someone saying that the main characters joined the Calgary Highlanders. Anyone know if that's true?

www.canadiansoldiers.com used to have a great article about the filming of the movie & the involvement of a number of members of the Calgary Highlanders, but the article isn't up on the web site at the moment.

If I remember correctly, the unit portrayed was the 10th CEF -- members of the CH and the Winnepeg Light Infantry made up the bulk of the 10th.

Loved the movie. That and A River Runs Through it helped me finally understand my parents who were born and raised in Montana. Until these two movies had never realized there was a distinct Montana culture...and my parents fit right in.

As often as I've seen Legends of the Fall don't recall the kilt scenes...thanks for the head's up, another excuse to watch it again.

I quickly scanned the novella to see if it references the regiment the Ludlow boys might have enlisted in, came up empty.
Jim Harrison's novella is much better then the movie (this coming from a die hard Brad Pitt fan!) and well worth the read.

    Ok,
I have put this question up on the Great war forum, and here's why. It does say on Wiki that they joined the 10Bn CEF. This Battalion was made up primarily from (Not the Calgary Highlanders) the Calgary Rifles and the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, therefore I do not know why any of them would be kilted. Hopefully someone on the other forum can clear this up. The 10th CEF WAS perpetuated by teh Calgary Highlanders which were given that designation I believe during the 1936 reorganization of the Canadian military. IN between wars they were know as the "Calgary Regiment". On the history pages of the Calgary Highlanders all the images of the 10th CEF show non kilted members. SO who knows maybe we can solve this conundrum
ALTHOUGH...I do LOVE the scene of the kilted Canadian signaling the jump off by kicking the soccer ball into no man's land!!
    Cheers,
    Chad

Oh yeah, and I do remember hearing the a lot of the extras for those scenes were members of the Canadian Black watch WWI Reenactors.

The actual characters in the movie were not in a kilted regiment, but in several scenes they are in the same trenches and same charges with kilted soldiers right alongside.

    Right.
However, I don't know how common it would have been to have two different Bns mixed together, even within the same division. That is why I am trying to figure out if the 10th CEF had any Kilted members. Of course it also could have been Hollywood just trying to Dress up the scenes, and since they had all the reenactors available..who were already kilted...why not? I just like to try and make sense out of certain things...like why would they be one of a few non kilted soldiers surrounded by all the other kilted ones?
