Time to start planning!
It looks like so far Walkerk, Madalyn, The F-H.C.A.G. , way2fractious, and myself* are all planning on being down in Palm Springs for a Kilt Day/Night with Hamish and Jim April 4th.
Do any of our friends in the So Cal Rabble have any thoughts where we should try to meet up?
Cheers
Jamie

In the "First Call" post, 1oldsarge noted "Lyon's English Grille is in South Palm Springs, and has a great tavern. It's also very close to Motel 6 and other lodging for those who travel far..."
I thought that suggestion was already in this thread, forgot that you had started a new one with the specific date.

Sydnie,
Sounds Good. They even have banquet rooms available depending on how many we may have coming.
Anyone who is interested in attending should take a look at Sydnie's link and voice there opinion before we start getting reservations
Cheers

Don't know what, I might add my $.02 worth, but there are two other "refreshment establishments" in close proximity and another good restaurant in the area. This not to take anything away from Lyon's, and depending on how many folks show up, that might be the right place to at least get started.
Just a few doors down from the Celtic Craft Centre in historic downtown Palm Springs, is an English pub called 'Hair o' the Dog'. Lively place to say the least. Just a couple of blocks south of there is another establishment called the 'Village Pub', also a lively crowd and, once again, plenty of refreshments.
There is also a Irish pub called McGowans, but that is just down the road a bit in Palm Desert. The do serve many traditional plates and they are very tastey and the refreshments are always cold and plentiful.
Like I said, just some more information for those of you that wish to come to Palm Springs. Hope to get to see some of you at one place or another. That is of course if I'm invited to attend, being a newbie and all. Otherwise, if you decide to patronize one of these establishments, I'm sure I won't be too hard to find.
Have fun and good luck,
By the way, if you need or want further information on places to stay, or need to have someone do some leg work, let me know and I'll try my best to assist in any way I can.

I'd be happy to have some alternatives tossed around -- Lyon's menu seems a touch pricey (although maybe par for Palm Springs) and there are mixed reviews of service, food, and atmosphere at some of the traveler review sites.
Happy to have another local chime in! Now, how to decide??

I would imagine that his lairdship gets enough English food in England, don't you think? Maybe we should choose something a bit more Californian.
Just a thought.
I do, however, have a great interest in our place of refreshment being within stagger...err...umm...walking distance from wherever we end up staying (be it the Motel 6 or some other worthy establishment).
Be well,

I thought that might be the case as well, but, in keeping with the rest of the posts here, I thought I would at least bring these other 'Pubs' to light. In addition, there are several other very California restaurants in the same area.
Maybe I should clarify some things a bit for those of you who have not been to Palm Springs before. Up and Down Palm Canyon, and Indian Canyon roads (the two main drags in the downtown area) there are numerous shops, restaurants, pubs and general touristy type places with which to visit. Basically, the old downtown area is dedicated to that kind of thing. From biker type bars to Pubs to very nice (interpreted as EXPENSIVE) hotels, every kind of restaurant fare you can imagine. In particular, one of my favorite haunts is Shanghai Reds. Some of the best Mexican seafood I have ever eaten, and the chef is a friend of mine. The fish tacos are outstanding, and relatively inexpensive as Palm Springs goes. Cold beverages of all kinds as well. There is also good Italian and some of the best Mexican food in the area can be found at Las Casuelas and La Casita. If your into Sushi, some of the best is at Margaritas. (Margaritas is kind of a strange place, they serve excellent Mexican food, and the freshest Sushi in town and the Margaritas are BANGIN')
The other nice thing about PS is that there are plenty of cabs if you want, but most everything that i have mentioned, except for McGowans, is within stumblin...I mean walking distance. There are several hotels, including the Spa Casino and Hotel right in the downtown area. I haven't stayed there, but i understand the rates are not too bad. I can check on some other hotels in the area, there are several Mom and Pop type hotels around the area as well.
The time you spend in PS won't be wasted, there are things to drink, i mean do, for almost everyones taste. Plenty to eat and drink while your here.

After looking at Lyons menu, I can tell you that those are pretty competitive prices particularly for PS. Maybe a little expensive for some of the premier orders, but otherwise just about par. However, I don't want to pay that kinda price if the food quality isn't worth the price. The other thing you might want to consider when it comes to reviews, the folks out here can be a little persnikity when it comes to that sorta thing. Although I have never been to Lyons, I'd give it a shot just to see for my self. I've eaten at places that did get good reviews, enjoyed the meal and could not figure out why it got the review it got.
All I can tell you is about the places that I have been. There is a reason I keep going to the same places, good food, good service, cold beer and good people. Nothing more complicated than that.

To all,
With sincerest appologies,
I've been thinking about this since last night after I read a reply form Laird Hamish himself in the newbie thread and thought I should clear this up. As I stated in the newbie thread, I am very new to the kilted clan here at XMTS. So new, in fact, that I have not as yet purchased my first kilt and do not believe that it will be here prior to the arrival of his Lairdship. But I am chomping at the bit to do so. Just can't quite decide which maker to use yet. I'm leaning real hard toward USAKilts though.
I did not want to mis-lead anyone in any way and I am still willing to assist in making arrangements or providing any information that I can prior to his Lairdship's arrival.
I have though, spent a great deal of time researching my family history through to the Buchanan clan on my fathers side and the Keith and Scott clan on my mothers side. As you can see, my family has deep roots when it comes to Scotland, it's just taken me a while to catch up and get serious my history and becoming a member of the So Cal kilted Rabble.
So, I hope this doesn't change anyones opinion as to my character, honor, integrity or sincerity.
