What kind of Jacket for a wedding
I am getting married in a kilt...My first kilt, so I would like to ask a quick and easy question for some rapid feedback.
I was going to purchase a Charlie Jacket. My other half preferred the style of the Argyle Jacket.
Now I reckon the Argyle Jacket will offer more use in time to come. So I am now on the verge of buying an Argyle Jacket....but it has been suggested not to use a vest with it - from a reputable source.
So...for a wedding...(or to put it in Scottish a "weeeding" )...what would you wear? and why?

Congrats on the upcoming nuptials!
For all the reasons given above (time of event, flexibility, betrothed's wishes) you're better off going with the Argyll. And I don't see why you couldn't wear a waistcoat with it.

An Argyll does look good with a vest but obviously that would affect the exposure of the shirt as it would be more hidden.
If you don't wear a vest you can wear a belt with your kilt and Argyll - if you go for a vest then omit the belt.
I have a PC already so would wear that at a wedding as I will next month at a Civil Union wedding I am attending but if you haven't already invested in a jacket maybe you should defer to your other half.

Listen to your other half because they are usually right. An Argyle can be worn with a neck tie or bow tie, and it is more versatile. go with the Argyle.

I would certainly wear and argyll jacket, and with a waistcoat too! You have a couple of options.
1. you can wear a black jacket, with a 5 or 6 button waistcoat, four-in-hand necktie. The waistcoat could be black, or it could be tartan, or even a brocade.
2. you can wear an argyll jacket made of tweed, perfectly acceptable for weddings. There are some nice jackets made up in a charcoal grey tweed, but really, there are many options. Some of the Americans in this group might not like this idea, but I am sure Jock Scot will back me up on the suitability of thise style of jacket for weddings! Again, waistcoat, but you could give it a pass if you like ( I wouldn't ).
Both of these options would work well. The first one, though, has the advantage of being good for formal day dress, and for black tie in the evening. You can get an evening waistcoat in that case ( 3 or 4 buttons, low cut ). At the same time, the tweed jacket might get more wear over the years if you don't expect to use it for evening events.
Kind regards,
Sandford MacLean

What time of year? If its summer and the weather can not be relied on(!!) then a tweed argyll will do nicely.Get the waistcoat while you are at it, as it gives you options. As to colour take your pick, but I think a charcoal type would see you through the evening too. Provided the evening bash is no too formal. A PC would be inappropriate for a daytime wedding. The other option is the black, barathea ,silver buttoned argyll(equivalent to a morning suit) which is very formal day wear,in kilt attire terms and would see you through a fairly formal evening. Good luck.
