Sorry, but I can't jump on the "tar and feather Kildare's" bandwagon. granted, he had no business asking, but what kind of response did you expect by actually telling him? When a bouncer asks, red flag should go up, hmmmm? Some communities actually interpret their indecent exposure laws pretty strictly. And there IS a double standard compared to women. Is it right?....nope....but it's there. Noone gets the real answer if they ask me.
I'd LIE in that situation.

That sucks, sorry for the hassle. I wouldn't go back, but I would make sure they knew the problem -- it sounds like that is taken care of.
I have gotten into several bars and private parties BECAUSE I was wearing a kilt. At one $30/person party I got in for free after the female ticket taker performed a quick kilt check.
EDIT: If a guy asks in that situation -- LIE!

Or frightened.
Another snappy response to "You wearing anything underneath that kilt?": Uhhh...why? You interested?

At what point does it become a full-length tartan skirt?

He got in because I think his kilt is long enough, he could be wearing a pair of jeans under there.
What's the drop on that kilt -- like 32 inches???
