But that will never diminish the treachery of the events of Feb 13, 1692 as they relate to the MacDonald clan, the crown, and to the Scots in general. Or the desire of those with MacDonald blood in their veins or sympathy in their hearts to memorialize the event and their fallen kin.
I have no wish to be contentious, only honest, and I respect what you say totally, but there is a but. I use this as an example, not a criticism. Why do the MacDonalds not commemorate the suffocating of some 400 of their clansmen, women and children in a cave by the MacLeods? As far as I am aware no one does. I am sorry to say and I really am,that I have more than a suspicion that opportunistic political capital and propaganda,by some, has been made of the massacre of the poor souls of Glencoe. As I say, other massacres of far greater proportions, whilst not forgotten, are in a much lower profile. Please understand that I make no excuses for those involved in the massacre of Glencoe ,or, anywhere else. I write this with the greatest repect to all and out of respect I will say no more on this sad and awful subject. Jock
