No Going Commando Here
Today's Sunday paper's front page news carries a photo of a gent smartly kilted with a blond lifting his kilt to reveal boxers. Contemporary kilt company Slanj whom recently started hiring kilts insists (with a notice in the store) that hirers must wear undergarments. The article goes on to say that this has been a measure taken due to the state of some of the kilts on return.
A gentleman whom I know owns his own kilt shop has been suggesting that for years for the very same reason.
Apparently the traditionalists ain't happy.

Scottish Kilt Rental Co. Now Requires Underwear
Decided to put this one here, instead of the media forum. (Scottish to U.S. translation: pants=underwear)
A kick in the pants for true Scots
Published Date: 15 February 2009
By Marc Horne
FOR generations the question about what a Scotsman wears under his kilt has been as enduring a mystery as the Loch Ness Monster.
But now one of the country's leading kilt-makers has decided to answer the question once and for all by imposing a strict pants-on policy.
Slanj, which has provided Highland dress for Ewan McGregor, Billy Connolly and Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand, is insisting that men have to wear something under their hire kilts.
* * *
This is just a way of trying to make things as pleasant as possible for all our staff and customers. In terms of hygiene, as well as comfort, we feel most people will see the sense in wearing pants."

I would not want to be regimental in a hire kilt, or any other hire garment for that matter.

Hmm ...
I hate to say it but I think I see his point. I for one would not wish to hire a kilt that has been worn 'regimental' by someone else.
Sorry but that's my $0.02 USD.

Yeah, if it's your own kilt that's one thing... But when you think about a rental.... There's a certain "Ewwwwww!!!" factor. At least there is for me.
Gives me the heebie-jeebies.

Crikey! Who takes a kilt back in that implied state. Probably the same mingers that render public toilets unusable and depart without even a backward glance. Some folks eh?
Mind I'm the sort of bloke that when staying at a hotel, I wash the cups and glasses, tidy the room and make the bed, just in case the ancillary staff think I'm a guest with poor personal standards. Aye...some folks eh?

Missed that (perhaps because of the title). Mods, could we merge these threads?

I couldn't rationalize "freestyling" in a rented kilt. I mean it would be like you were touching the last guys . . . ::shudder::. No question about it, even if it weren't the rule, I would give the boys a house in a hired kilt.
