It looks great, and is a welcome change from the ubiquitous Prince Charlie Coatee. If I may make one tiny suggestion-- I think you'd find it a bit more dashing if you were to close the top of the jacket under the jabot, which would show more lace--

All you need now are the diced (or tartan) hose!

Thank you for your comments abot the jabot. I would agree that closing the jacket would show the lace more.

However, there does not seem to be any way to close the jacket. There is a column of silver buttons on each side but no buttonholes. The picture on Alexis Malcolm's website shows it open as well.
Somewhere I saw a comment that this was an older style of jacket. Perhaps it preceeded the Montrose or other doublets that were intended to close?

If anyone has a picture of a Sheriffmuir jacket being worn, could you please post it?

How could I resist?


Mine fastens with 3 cords that have hook & eye fastenings. Why don't you make a loop of black cord, maybe even a shoe lace, to hold the top buttons each side together?

IMHO, this style "Jacket" "out classes" the PC.

As to "closing" it ??? Can you show a picture of it being worn WITH out the "jabot" or neck cloth. I have a couple of friends that do research (for museums) on dress civilian & military jackets during the "Georgian & early Victorian periods. According to my "LIMITED" knowledge this jacket style as well as the PC etc. are "adaptations of these. (???) & perhaps they could insights on their "antecedents" & them being worn (open?closed)
