Would you wear a kilt to an Interview?

I really can't say that I would, especially in todays economic climate. I've never done it. I would say a navy or gray suit works the best.

As a fellow job hunter I think you have to dress appropriately for the interview and the company in question, do your research! On the other hand, I attended a job fair last Thursday and made a conscious decision to go kilted (c/w shirt, tie, jacket & waistcoat/vest) to stand out amongst a sea of grey suits.

I also went to one on Wed. I wore a 3 piece suit and stood out. Got 4 interviews out of it and could have had more. BUT, 3 of them were for companies I didn't really want to work for since they would be commision only, too hard to break into a new type of sales without a base to live on. I have to follow up on the last one to make sure. That one I could work for since it would be base plus.

To continue, there is one other situation where I would ware a kilt for an interview. I wouldn't care if the company approved even if I did want the job and that is when it would be a phone interview. And I've had SEVERAL of those.

It would have to be a special situation for me to wear a kilt to an interview. Only if I knew beforehand that it would help my cause, otherwise, it's a suit for me.

I actually have an interview tomorrow afternoon (Monday) in Kansas City, and won't be going kilted. It is for a chemical company, and in that environment, kilts really aren't appropriate from a safety perspective.

Now, after the interview, when I hit the pub, I will be kilted, as well as when I fly back home Tuesday morning!

The only interview I have worn a kilt to, I got the job. Now to be fair, they were hiring pretty much any qualified warm body to fill the positions (about 400), and I wasn't really sure I wanted the job in the first place.

On the other hand, since most of my work comes not from interviews, but either replying to job postings or cold callings... All of my listings in national crew databases has my web site listed. Any one who cold calls me for a gig gets the same web site. On the other hand, when sending resumes/applying for gigs with local production companies gets them a non kilted version of my web site. I have, however, started wearing a kilt when I go in to drop off resumes/new demos, to some of the local companies, and all of the local networking events, everyone knows me in a kilt.

I would definitely wear a kilt to interview. Now that I wear a kilt daily I would be pretending that I am somebody I am not if I went for interview in trousers. The interviewer can see the kilt and ask about it if they wish. I'd explain that I normally wear a kilt but that if the job called for it, for example for health and safety reasons, or was a uniformed job or involved climbing ladders, then I would be prepared to wear trousers to work even though not my normal attire.

I absolutely love wearing a kilt. I wear it in a very traditional manner. I even find it outshines even the finest suits on the market. Unfortunately not everyone is on the same page has me and the rest of the "Rabble" here. With that being stated, it would really depend on the job I would be interviewing for. In todays job market and with the current financial climate, those actually hiring can be very particular. Is it wrong for them to judge you on wearing something that I find is suitable for many occasions, YES ! Such is the case none the less. One must choose wisely. Good Luck !
