Monarch of the Glen
I know this topic has been discussed before, but I just borrowed seasons 1-3 on DVD from a friend and I'm finally able to see what they hype is about. Not only is a great series, but really beautiful as well! I love how Duncan wears the kilt casually all the time, and how Hector wears the kilt to supper every night to be served with a piper! The perfect mixture of the ancient clan system and the feel of modern Scotland.

I've seen every episode mulitple times with one exception. I've NEVER seen Episode 1! Somehow I kept missing it, and now it's no longer run on any channels that I get. I guess I'll have to subscribe to Netflix and rent it.

If you really want a good time, read Sir Compton Mackenzie's book "The Monarch of the Glen," and the others in the series. The TV show is completely different than the books, unfortunately, for the books are truly wonderful and would have been perfect adapted for the screen.

Yes, Monarch of the Glen was a very successful series run on BBC on a Sunday night, the first 2 or 3 series(s) were really good but after that the characters changed and I think the scriptwriters lost the plot. Don't see much of Archie on TV but Dawn Steele who played Lexie went on to star in Sea of Souls, set in Glasgow and can now be seen in the Sunday night drama Wild at Heart.

Dawn Steel is a wonderful actress, and a true Highland lass.
We liked the original characters so much our dogs are named Molly and Hector. Be careful what you name your pets. Molly is beautifu and sweet, and Hector is a rascal.
