Yes Alan, you're right; the kilt is just a garment. There are far more important things in the life and the dress doesn't "make" a Man. Although it takes a Man to wear a kilt.
I really feel for you and hope you'll pull out of this situation the best possible way and you'll be even better person that you're now (which you are).
My thoughts are with all my "brothers" out there trying to find their own piece of peace and their piece of dignity.
Hold on and the Kilt be with you!

Alan,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I can empathize with you after going through some tough times myself. I have found myself with similar thoughts coming to the realization of what is truly important in my life.
"If the world were merely seductive, that would be easy. If it were merely challenging, that would be no problem. But I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day." — E.B. White
Take Care,
Stefan

Alan it was great reading you.
Chrystel was sitting by my side as I was translating to her. At some point she was holding on to my arm... We were very close to you man.
Thank you and write again. That's the whole point of being a family here. With and without steam .
Best,
Robert

Wow - Robert just summed up my feelings and reaction. This is not any forum, it's a family. You are with and amongst friends who are more than willing to suport you, share your grief and troubles, and just be there when you need us.

I think the title of your thread should read Obviously, not obnoxiously, as it is obvious you have a full plate. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Having watched a loved one linger until it is their time to go is never easy. Been down that road a couple times already. Take care.

Thank you Alan for the Thoughts and prose (is that the right word?)
My Thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family I will try to send some positive energy out to you to help you cope. I've had to go through some of what you are right now and am glad you keep your head up.
You will always find Friends here to help you through life.

Alan,
I reiterate what others have said. The most important things aren't things. Caring for others--especially family members--and feeling grief as they slip away is healthy and right. Prayers for you in a long, hard and difficult time.

Thanks, Brother. You have reminded us all that there are more important things in life than kilts. All the arguments here seem to be trivial compare to what you are going through. Hang in there.
