    Collections of Sgian Dubhs??

I find myself looking at all styles of sgian dubhs thinking "I want that.. and that .. and that..." I have 2 of the plastic handle variety already and one horn-handled on it's way.

Anyone have this problem?? For me, it acually a bit better than what I previsously lusted over.. guitars. Sgian dubhs are MUCH cheaper...

I'm a collector of knives in general, so sgian dubhs have an added bit of "justification" when I see an especially smart looking one. I find it very tough to walk away and say "no". Decided to start making them instead. Which, all told, hasn't proven to be much cheaper in the long run. All sorts of tools that I HAVE to buy now

I have two from Raptor in Australia - one with a Gordon crest (a gift from my brother) and the other with a Desert Sheoak handle. I have another with a black wood handle, sterling fittings and a red jasper pommel.

The one I wear the most is one made by our own Piper394 - damascus blade forged from a used Harley chain, african blackwood hilt with sterling fittings and an amethyst pommel.

    Not quite a collection yet.

I like the one on the far right hand end of the photo the best, Jay. It most suits my personal taste. Who made that one ?

I will try to get a picture together of the ones I have made that are on hand at the moment, and the really nice one that I got from Jake Clelland. He posted a picture of a real beauty on Don Fogg's forum a couple of days ago in this thread.

Someday I want to get myself a Jake Clelland sgian dubh, he makes such gorgeous ones... on the same token someday I want to get a Howard Clark blade too. Unfortunately with teh economy the way it is right now it'll be some time till I can justify either =(

I traded for that one. And I can't remember his name right now - lives in Alaska.... I'll have to do some digging.

Here's some of my recent sgians that I made, and I like them alot.

Thanks for all the great pictures so far... afraid that through all the festivals I plan on attnding and playing in... I am going to go broke amassing a collection of these. Making them sounds like a great experience, but I have neither the tools or the room to do.

I did see a psuedo-sgian, where is was essentially a carved piece of wood to look like a sgian dubh in it's sheath. That was really cool too.

Don Fogg, who was a former neighbor and an old friend of mine, made me a beautiful damascus sgian dubh blade before he moved. I have been wanting to get it fitted with a nice carved hilt and have been thinking of sending it to Rab Gordon in Scotland, as it appears he does extremely nice carving and work on the sgian dubhs he makes.
