No! No! no pin stripes. I just had Don Johnston stuck in my mind wearing a white suit on the beach, and I put him in an X-Kilt. Sorry.
Nighthawk's kind of got it with the waistcoat, but I don't know about the dress bunny sporran.
Just take your regular kilt jacket and waistcoat, I think it was tweed, and try it with an X-Kilt, to see if it works for you as far as the length and all. I mean, you're in California; I understand.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Ron, I like the Pendleton vest and Freedom kilt.
Now I'm thinking on the possibility of "non-sporran" style thingamabobs for the necessities.
I might have to incorporate pockets into this next contempo kilt.
Don Johnson in kilt? LOL You should be soundly thrashed for introducing that idea into my psyche, Ted! LOL

I mean from back in the eighties, like Miami Vice, and...
Oh, never mind!!
* If you have a jacket and waistcoat, you don't need a sporran. *

I have cargo pockets on the one I was wearing that held more than enough. If you don't like that idea, a larger under apron pocket (or multiple pockets for each item) could work too.
I guess the Miami Brouges would be woven white leather worn with no hose?

̀ recently needed to dress up my utilikilt. I was singing in a choir concert at my college and the specified dress was black and white. I decided to wear my black utilikilt with a black cotton waistcoat (matched the material of the utilkilt nicely) that I got a target for 24 dollars. some nice hose, dress shoes, a white dress shirt and black tie finished off my outfit. I also wore my black felted wool ascot cap. It got very good reactions all around. I was told that I looked quite "Dapper." I am a fan of the waistcoat and tie with a modern solid colored kilt.

Alan, I think we fuss too much over all this should I, shoudn't I aspect of kilting.
In my opinion a kilt, is a kilt, is a kilt...
If you wear it with a t-shirt it's 'casual', if you wear it with a collar and tie it's 'smart'.
Best guide mee thinks is, a bit of prior departure experimentation and a full length mirror. If you think you look the business, step outside. If you think you look a chump, try something else.
From what I've seen of contemporary kilts on here I don't think traditional sporrans of any type work with them and you're best not wearing one at all. I also think you're stuck with long socks, as ankle socks with dress shoes would look a little odd but so long as you're not trying to do the whole ghillie brogue thing with a contemporary style and you're all toned in, then any smart footwear and complimenting long sock should work.
Then again, what do I know? I wear a levi jacket with tartan...

This was my solution to dressing up a utilikilt. Sorry the picture is a bit fuzzy.
