"My" tartans, that is to say those tartans that are associated with my family somehow, are Gunn, Keith/Austin and MacGregor. I like the Gunn and Keith/Austin tartans in their modern colors, Keith especially because it's so similar to Black Watch, which I've liked for as long as I can remember. I've seen a variant of the Gunn tartan that was done in either Ancient or Weathered, I'm not sure which, but I liked that one, too. Of the MacGregor tartans, the only one I can honestly say that I really like a lot is the Red and Black. My wife, however, doesn't much care for it, so as long as she has a say in how money gets spent in our household I'll probably not have a kilt in that tartan.

My wife isn't a fan of tartan in general, having gone to Catholic school when she was younger and having been forced to wear it. She doesn't loathe Black Watch, and she is okay with Stewart Black and actually thinks that Gordon Dress is quite nice. Interestingly, she saw a picture of the MacDonald tartan and hated it, but recently when we were at the North Texas Irish Festival she pointed to a kilt hanging up in a vendor's booth and said, "I kinda like that one." It was the MacDonald tartan.

So for now I've got a kilt coming in Stewart Black (FINALLY!) and I've got my sights set on a Matt Newsome box-pleat in Keith/Austin Modern. (One little, two little, three little pennies....)
