I have to say that on the whole I prefer district tartans the most, adding a part to civic life and pride. I especially like district tartans that use ‘local’ and heraldic colours to really represent that area. In terms of design I often like quite bold and simple patterns rather than anything too intricate – though saying that intricate done well is really rather nice to behold.
I own two kilts, one in Halesowen and the other in Black Country district tartans, both of which I designed so it would probably be rather biased of me to claim those as favourites… but I’ll do it anyway! :P I also like Northumbrian and I really like Earl of St Andrews for the lovely blended blues.
Clan wise, whilst again I could be biased (by my girlfriend), I do genuinely like MacGregor for its simple and bold look.

Boyd Modern: My Clan
Hunting Robertson: Pipe Band
MacGregor: Old Pipe Band
I've always admired the colors in the Isle of Skye tartan.
