I’ve only been a member for a few months now but I visit everyday & I’ve learned a lot & I’ve enjoyed interacting with others in the forums. Here are some things that others have mentioned that I think are great ideas:

    • Updated information. Someone mentioned a post about kilt-makers that was several years old. Either give that post a bump with updated info or maybe delete it. Maybe not every single post or thread needs to be saved. I’m not saying get rid of everything after 1yr but maybe a cleaning up of long dead threads may be in order.

    • A welcome area for new members. After your account is activated you are directed to a newbie’s area with FAQ’s, 30 most asked kilt questions, & the like. Think of it as a wading pool for new members that they can move around in & then when they get their bearings they can head out into the rabble.

    • I agree with the no religion or politics ban & the firearms ban, however, as mentioned by others maybe we could have an area for bladed weapons & ancient armor. We do have a lot of interest in these subjects & there are many members who like re-enacting ancient battles.

I really like the site & I like the interaction with the other members. I hope that remains instead of becoming more of a Wiki type site.

X will continue to grow as it does daily. It will improve according to the caliber of people who join and/or remain. The forum works just like every other forum I have belonged to. I would like to see a more efficient search feature - but again it's the same as other forums based on the same framework. Keep up the good work.

    found items

I have only been an xmarker for some time now, but I just now found the links on the left of the main page. Never noticed them before! There is some neat stuff over there, though some very outdated, such as dead links and such.

Maybe some easy navigation for those links, or a way to make them more prominent?

I noticed that the Traditional Kilts sub-forum was renamed Traditional Highland Dress. That's probably a good idea.

The point of this thread was to see if we needed some updates or improvements.

Hank (highlandtide) the owner of this site has been following the thread and some of the suggestions that have been offered here are going to lead to some changes.

They aren't going to be earthshaking ones but hopefully that will all contribute to making XMTS more enjoyable and useful.

    Stay tuned...

    Cheers

I, personally would really like it if, when you put someone on your "ignore" list, then really and truly disappeared from the site for you. As it stands now, you can see that they're "around", can see that they've posted or sent you a message, you just can't read it, and you have this little bit of text that says "so-and-so is on your ignore list".

I'd love it if they just plain completely disappeared until you took them off the list.

    Didn't Know

Wow. I didn't even know there was an "ignore" list. Since I only get updates on threads I've actually contributed on, I am already interested in what's being said on that thread. Otherwise I don't click on something (or someone I guess) that I'm not interested in.

Of course you won't get this if I'm on your ignore list.

If you go and look at your private messages, then I believe you're in your "control center" here at X Marks. Over on the left is a long list of links to do things like change your signature etc. etc. One of those is to edit your ignore list.

Use "ignore" with care, that's my opinion. If you just go "ignore" everybody who makes one or two posts that you disagree with, pretty soon you'll have the whole bluidy site on "ignore". I save it for people who really, seriously annoy me, over and over again and show no signs, after many months, of ever changing. I fully expect I'm on a couple of peoples "ignore" list and that's OK. In my humble opinion, the "ignore" feature is very valuable, but it's also my opinion that it should be used sparingly. Others may differ in their opinions regarding the feature.

I've seen the ignore feature, but have never used it on anyone. There have been people over the years I would have liked to, but I just glaze over those posts as people do have good input and I don't really want to go to the trouble or the effort to actually ignore someone.
