Welcome and wear the kilt! Thank goodness that I have my MacWilliam family to give me a bit of Scots ancestry, BUT we know they stopped in Ireland for a while before coming to America. So, whether Scots or Irish, wear the kilt and enjoy it.

Welcome to the Forum and the company of The Rabble. Here is my tuppence worth; Look at what is out there as far as tartans (Scottish & Irish), pick the TWO that really ring your bell, toss a coin for 1st and 2nd choice, buy the 1st one and plan on buying the 2nd one when feasible. The Rabble will concur with me that there is nothing in the world like the feeling you get when you strap on your first kilt. BE WARNED !!! You are embarking on something that can become an addiction. LOL.

I too am of Irish background and am looking into the County Mayo tartans to have made into a kilt someday. Meanwhile there are so many great looking Scottish tartans available that I would say the only answer to your dilema on which tartan to get is to buy one (or more) of each.

Welcome!!
My heritage is neither Scottish nor Irish, mostly German. But, I wear my American National tartan with pride and my Lamont Ancient (my pipe bands tartan) the same. Just do it and enjoy!

Welcome from Eastern Washington State. Don't worry about whether you can wear a kilt or not—you can, and if you wish, should.

Don't let anyone tell you can't wear it & don't let anyone tell you that you can't wear a perticular tartan. You wear what patterns apeal to you. I do not wear certin ones but that's me. No one has the right to tell YOU which ones you can or can't wear.
