The Celts that fought the Romans fought naked painted blue with woad.. Going into battle mourning their death so to say... Kinda like a beserker only not as hairy.... LOL
side note this is refering to the mainland European Celts that actually defeated the Romans in the early years

I hate to throw a wrench into all this Historical supposition but since very early times it has been known that for a man to engage in heavy physical activity without "Girding your Loins" is painful.

It has been the often reported practice to tie up, bind, or support the male anatomy for almost as long as there have been males.

Try running three or four miles without a jockstrap and you'll know what I mean. It will make you physically sick to your stomach.

As there is no historical proof what Highlanders, Picts, or anyone else wore, or didn't wear, we really don't know for sure. Those references to naked warriors are very few and far between. They usually are pretty vague too. Most historians agree that referring to "Naked" usually meant "Dressed in less than us" or "not wearing armor or other protection" by the writer.

The practice of going without undergarments seems to be a post 1800 military phenomenon. As many times we hear of the inspections with the mirror on the shoe they all seem to come from the period around WWI.

If you choose to "Go Regimental" because it is titallating to do so, then that is your business. I frankly wish the whole subject would go away.
I personally view "The Question" as rude and socially unacceptable.
