I thought that the regimental and or school tie {which I assume this is] was the only acceptable exception to the "solid tie with a tartan" rule?

I don't know what tie is being worn. Perhaps a better way to ask the question is:

Understanding that tartan ties are not to be worn with a kilt, what type of patterned four-in-hand tie would be acceptable?

Just a suggestion on how to ask the question; I'm not asking.
