It's a total peacock factor.
At my son's wedding, not only were we all kilted, but my Father-in-law must have spent a few thou on his tank and accessories, plus we put on the invitations "semi-formal or Scottish Highland attire."
We had two dozen men and boys come in kilts and PCs.
One of the teen girls remarked that this was the first wedding she had ever attended, and she didn't know what a wedding WITHOUT kilts would be like!
Incidentally, no one outshone the bride on that day - in fact, it seemed clearly to honor her!
