That would take a LOT of tartan to create, though I'd like to see one if it ever gets made.

I was actually thinking of this the other day. I imagine there'd have to be some wrangling with seams running diagonally through the pleats if using traditionally woven tartan. It would certainly be interesting to see how one turned out.

Now all we have to do is to convince someone to weave a length of tartan on the bias so there's no seams running through the pleats and get someone to stitch up a prototype

I do think that it would look pretty interesting, and no doubt cost quite a bit.

Maybe leave the pleats as they would normally be and have the apron made on the bias and attached to the rest of the kilt where the seam is hidden within the first reverse pleat. Significantly less waste though still some.

Think about it, Diagonally(There you go, Nick) pleated to the stripe or sett!
It may be easier and/or cheaper to do it like you said, but then Sir. Sean might as well not wear that $10,000 kilt made of- 100% fine Mongolian Cashmere, was it?
