Wearing a kilt to an American Daytime Wedding

Nice tartan choice! I like to wear dark green hose with mine.

Great tartan choice. I wear cream hose with matching tartan flashes. I also wear green hose with yellow flashes.

This issue has been beaten to death already... so I think I'll add another punch!

Personally, I like to wear a tie that is a variant of the tartan of my kilt. I have a modern Clergy kilt with ancient Clergy tie and flashes. It adds a little flair to the whole ensemble I think. You would actually look great with just a waist coat and the whole jacket outfit, as well, so there's something else to think about.

I consulted with the prospective bride and groom, and the wedding party (which I am not a part of, but I have a part to play in the Mass) are wearing bowties and PCs, so I think I will do likewise.

And Brooks Brothers have 30% off formal shirts and bow ties this week. You can the boy out of Scotland...

One thing about this choice is that you may be perceived as being part of the wedding party if you dress just like them. I would say dressing in the Argyll with a normal tie and the tartan hose spread collar shirt may be just the ticket, this way everyone should know that you are a guest, think of it this way, you would not wear a tuxedo to a wedding unless you were in the wedding party. To my mind the same goes for Prince Charlie especially before 6p.m.

I was rather wondering about the etiquette of that, which was pushing me towards a spread collar shirt with an argyle and long tie, but I was also thinking that it might be considered bad form to wear something different to everyone else wearing a kilt. I'm not part of the wedding party (best man or groom) but I am one of the readers, which may make a difference. Maybe I'll make some more inquiries to the Happy Couple...

Actually Glen, here in the South it is quite common, and considered good manners, for male guests to wear dinner jackets (black tie) to evening weddings.
