I did try them. I bought three pair of them, but seldom wear them because of the extremely open weave, after an hour or so standing on my feet they are very uncomfortable. Sure, I could put another pair of sox underneath these, but I got rid of all my short sox when I stopped wearing those hated cloth tubes.

Granted - They are pretty, and almost-un-wear-out-able because few people could wear them as much as a better qualitry pair of hose.

A much better option with the same look would appear to be >>this company<< Their hose are much better made, and do not hurt the feet.

During the shooting season I wear the almostunwearoutables perhaps 10 hours a day, sometimes 6 days a week, for 6 months. Before some wag gets going, I have 10 or so pairs, not just one pair! I find them comfortable and yes, almostunwearoutable.

Every review I have ever read of the Almostunwearoutable hose has been extremely positive. I'm also a little surprised to see such an open knit in these close-up photos. (The socks are knit, not woven). I would have expected a tighter stitch. Todd also has a pair of these that he has worn for quite some time, so maybe he could chime in.

The shooting socks from the site James linked to appear to be made by House of Cheviot in Hawick (the same company that makes our Lewis hose and the sock body of our Royal Cuff hose, as well as our Argyle and diced hose). I know they do a large business in shooting socks, as well as kilt hose. They are very nice quality, as well.

Seconded. I've never had an issue with them being "open-weaved", nor have I ever had to wear another pair of socks under them.

I'll have a look at my pair tonight, Matt -- Let me just say I've been wearing mine for over 5 years now, and I am still very satisfied with them. I've worn them for a full day at various Highland games, and when combined with a sturdy pair of shoes, they are very comfortable. I would second Jock and Sandy's comments -- you just can't wrong with a pair of Victoria's hose.

I also like the House of Cheviot as well.

There's usually a way. You might be able to contact a helpful person in the UK who would consider forwarding a pair on to the states, should you purchase a pair, have them sent to their UK address and send them the appropriate postage costs. This way you should also avoid duties as they could be sent as a gift!

Just a suggestion.
