I would think a personal connection like that would certainly trump other considerations. Wear them with pride.

well
I think it depends on the tartan and/or kilt. ANd it also depends on the shirt/tie. Some people wear no hose at all!

I think it really depends on the outfit, I find generally for formal wear diced or tartan hose are the right ticket. For casual day wear I generally wear a colour that matches the main colour or a secondary colour from the tartan however you can also match your shirt colour. There really are no rules here, I too find that white hose are not the best. If I was lucky enough to have a pair that were hand knit some 50 years ago for my Grandfather in law I would wear them proudly. Hand knit hose ca come in any colour at all and set you above the crowd.
You may want to look at the 1 kilt 10 looks thread here for a few ideas.

Let's not beat about the bush here, if you like whatever colour hose, for whatever reason, then damn well wear them.

I'm still considering boiling my cream hose in coffee... It's not like I'll ever wear them again as they are.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Just seems like a waste of a perfectly good pot of coffee... how about using that "tea" stuff they brew in the UK.

I think I have some bags of tea around here somewhere... Although, the coffee wouldn't completely be wasted, because I could dump it on the compost heep.
