baptism by fire
Hello all
Due to my occupation of ammonia refrigeration tech I have been on the hazmat team at work for a few years and decided to utilize my training by joining the local county hazmat team. Just wanted to share meeting the propane tree, as well as being on a nozzle, for the first time last week. I had been on air a few times for training and wear a APR mask almost daily, nothing new there, but hadnt worn FFPC before or used a fire hose. The first time against "real" fire and first time on a nozzle together was a bit different. Going forward to the flame wasnt bad, but backing up against the hose is a bit tough. Things can go awry pretty quick!

There is nothing hotter than a gas leak fire. I have been the nozzleman on one of those practice burns, where we walked in step two-by-two, with open fog nozzles, to get close enough to turn off the valve.
Here is a pic of me (on the left) putting out a car fire in 2003! ith:

Yes it was a 2 team practice with fogging to reach the valve. They wanted to turn the valve down then turn it back up, and back out of the fire. I have a bit to learn about fighting the hose when backing up.

When I saw the title I thought it was going to be a story of going to a Walmart/ Target for your first ever kilted outing or some such,
then I see that it is only a blazing inferno and they let you have a hose, airpack and firesuit.
Good on -ya, I still remember doing similar evolutions with the Navy firefighter trainer.
