I had a calabash with a meerschaum bowl. It was the coolest smoking pipe I ever owned. I had several Savanelli's I liked, too.
Balkan Sobrannie is a moist tobacco (no sugar added though) and a lot of tar would collect in the bottom of the calabash after a while and the dern thing would rattle a bit when I drew on it.

Kind of off to the side a bit...this topic got me remembering and feeling a bit nostalgic. I took inventory of the pipes I have left and googled Balkan Sobranie.
Turns out it was discontinued some years back (I haven't smoked for over thirty-five years) and it is now considered the creme de la creme and holy grail of pipe tobaccos...who knew? In a forum I ran across, someone said that occasionally a tin (?) can be found on EBay...presumably the old original mixture in the white tin...selling for upwards of $650.00. Figured it worked out to $32.00 a bowl. [sigh]
Just as well, I really didn't want to start in again. I'd be happy just to smell a freshly opened tin once again

in my bowl: whatever smells good at the tobacco shop. I average smoking once every 6-8 weeks, and don't keep up with brands or blend names.
In my glass: water. Smoking dries my throat out something fierce. Now why is that?

A good Cuban; knew there was some reason to go to Mexico, or a La Gloria Cubana, Nicaragua I think. As for my glass, an Orange Pekoe or Earl Gray, although I do enjoy a Herbal mix of Red Zinger, peppermint, ginseng and cranberry juice, very refreshing and cleansing. ith:

Something DIET fills my glass and my pipe collection has been gathering Dust for years now. Still love the quiet evenings out and don't begrudge those who enjoy a pint and a good bowl of smoke.

Haven't smoked anything legal since about age 17, or anything illegal since about age 26, other than the occasional king salmon (legally caught, of course, the right way, on a 9 wt fly rod).
My glass has a large variety of options to choose from (single malt collector here) including my favorites Tobermory, Auchentoshan, Aberlour sherry cask strength, Abunadh, and Caol Ila (scots, please pardon the spelling). But the others are not neglected either as I do like to exercise both my options and my drinking arm.

In my glass is Talisker 12 year amoroso double-matured malt. Then I migh thave a dram of HP-12.
As much as I like Islays, if I could only have one Scotch (thank dog I don't have to) it would be HP-12. Scores around 90 in the book.

I was enjoying a pipe of Mariners Blend just this afternoon.
Only water in my glass at the time. Just enjoying the sun while my wee one slept.
