Yup - won't pleat worth a darn to the stripe. But! There are lots of other MacDonald tartans. The Hunting MacDonald of the Isles, for example, would pleat beautifully either to the red or to the white stripe. Several of the other MacDonalds will also pleat well to the stripe.
And, if you're interested in the MacDonald of Sleat, I actually have a piece that I'd part with for a reasonable price. I did one several years ago for Turpin, although it was pleated to the sett (http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/t...acdonald+sleat). Might be possible to pleat it to the narrow green stripe - would depend on the width of the red on each size plus the size of the person.
