Help me pick my next kilt
I always wanted a kilt but could never afford one, that is until I found Stillwater Kilts. My first kilt was/is a thrifty in Black Stewart that I bought over a year ago. As much as I love my kilt, I want something a little more...kilty. If that is even a word. Something I can build more "outfits" around. Something I can take up to the semi-formal level.
I still don't have funds to buy a hand-sewn/crafted-by-the-gods kilt so I've decide to get a Stillwater Regular. It's more...kilty, right? Now that I've decided where I'm going to get my next kilt, I need help picking the tartan.
I'm torn between: Gordon, MacDonald, Mackenzie, MacLaren and Royal Stewart.
While I want to be able to build and outfit that I can comfortably take into a semi-formal setting, I would also like to be able to pull off a more casual look and use either black or brown accessories. So I'm asking, nay begging, the collective rabble to help me pick my next kilt.

MacLaren, for my own personal selfish reasons.

I find it a toss up between the Gordon and the MacLaren. They both work well with black or brown accessories. If I had to choose between the two (and a coin wasn't handy) I would lean toward the Gordon. Mainly because the tartan has a less busy look to my eyes. But, that's just my two cents worth.

My vote would be for the Gordon (for selfish reasons too). But it is a little less "busy" and easy to match up various colors of shirts and what not. SWK is a really good company and their kilts (I have 4 of theirs) are very nice in my opinion.

I'd agree with others that it would be between the Gordon and MacLaren for me. Both will work with black and brown accessories. I'd probably choose the MacLaren. It's a bit brighter and the addition of the red stripe allows some extra choices for flashes, ties, etc when putting together an outfit.

Edited because I am a bonehead. I got Maclaren and Mackenzie confused.
Of those two, I'd go with the Gordon for simplicity's sake. But could I interest you in a Mackenzie Weathered?

Why, a child of five could understand this. Quick -- someone fetch me a child of five!

I really like the Weathered Mackenzie but I don't think I would feel comfortable wearing black with it. It such a nice earth-tone that it cries out for brown accessories. It's definitely on my list but for my next kilt, I want something I will feel comfortable in with either black or brown.

wow
Oddly enough I don't care for the look of those tartans. Just my opinion though. Why not splurge and buy both!
