Washing a USAK Casual

Are you guys leaving the velcro together or fully undoing the kilt and putting it in the ol washer? After adding another couple days of wear on a hiking trip mine is ready for its first wash (second wash? I did go for a swim in it), thought if the velcro was left together it would help the velcro last longer, or am I way off base? Is type of soap an issue, most any detergent without bleach, or is a woolite type needed for PV? Sounds like cavscout is turning it inside out and leaving it velcroed, I will try that for its first machine washing with just a touch of detergent.
