For the Burns Suppers I attended this past January, I acquired an honest-to-goodness, tie it youself, black silk cravat. I also bought a dress shirt with an honest-to-goodness detachable wing collar. I was very happy with the look. I wore it with a black Argyle jacket.
Here it is with a black waistcoat (5 button, notched lapel).

The look is great, without being contrived, and there isn't "a whiff of the phoniness" of the earlier photo.

Totally agree. Matt's look is refined, the lines are harmonious and the whole effect is very classy.
