another dirk
Hi, there,
just wanted to post some pics of my latest dirk.
The 13`blade is handforged and given a "heavy-used-fighting-weapon-look".
I didnīt use modern tools like belt grinder etc. I wanted to make it exactly the way the old smiths did. The handcarved handle is maple and 4 1/2`long, only treated with linseed oil. Hope you like it. (just clic on the pics to enlarge them)
Regards
Thomas

Very nice. If you did not use modern tools was the blade hand forged?

Thanks, all
Yes, the whole dirk is handmade (handforged and carved).
Oh, Thereīs one modern tool used- a die for fitting the tang nut.
Forgive me- I didnīt tell the whole truth![Embarassed](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_redface.gif)
Itīs the first time I did use such a bright wood, but as the historic pattern has a handle from walrus ivory, I thought , maple might be the right stuff for it.
Cheers
Thomas

Beautiful work. I like the one in your avatar as well.

That is a beauty! I love the way you did the grip. Fifty years or so you wont be able to tell that from an original.

Well done. I have a couple friends who are blade smiths. One has to hold a quality custom made blade to truly appreciate it. Your pictures are nice, but I am sure do not do it full justice. Enjoy it for years to come.
